32124 1953-07-31 Exeter St. Davids

The rebuilt E1/R 0-6-0Ts were introduced to banking and pilot duties on the half mile climb from Exeter St. Davids to Central in 1938, proving themselves well suited for the work. They remained on these duties until 1962 when engines of the "W" class 2-6-4T took over, with rather less success.
In this view E1/R number 32124 is at Red Cow crossing, on the eastern end of St. David's, looking as though it is ready to bank a passenger working up the 1 in 37 grade to Central."
