NER J26 0-6-0 No 65xxx on a freight going away on the curve between Norton South and East Junnctions in c1958. The engine in this picture has round cab spectacles in which case it must be a J26. All the J27s (and some of the J26s) had shaped front windows. The NER signal (Norton South's down starter) was taken down in late 1959. It was replaced by an upper quadrant on the other side of the bridge (see picture of 61062). It's interesting that T G Hepburn visited that bridge in the 1950s as well as the later 1960s. The train in this picture is approaching the summit of Stockton Bank which was reached at Norton East SB (hidden by the trees around the corner).
