A Light Engine movement from Bromsgrove to Gorton. Returning to works for what would turn out to be the last time, this could actually be the last time this mighty engine was in steam.

Peter Kerslake adds " The massive bulk of Sir Nigel Gresley's Beyer Garratt 69999 is shown to advantage in this fine view , the locomotive's days on both the Woodhead line across the Pennines and its later spell on the Lckey incline now all having ended.
It was the electrification of the Woodhead line which ended the Garratt's time on banking heavy freights , especially eavily loaded coal wagons from the South Yorkshire coalfields westwards to the power stations and factories of Manchester and Lancashire , whilst the size of 69999 was such that limited platfom clearances at Bromsgrove at the foot of the Lickey restricted the locomotive's use on banking duties to an unacceptable degree , and it was withdrawn in late 1955 , being broken up at Doncaster in the following year "
