In pre-grouping days, York was host to at least seven railway companies' locomotives. NER, GNR, CGR, MR, H&BR, L&YR, L&NWR and as here in 1922, the Great Central Railway. The Robinson '11E' (LNER 'D10') 4-4-0s were elegant machines. No.436 'Sir Berkeley Sheffield' in the fine GCR livery adds to the exciting variety to be seen at York. Perhaps only Carlisle and Lincoln could lay equal claim to seeing such a number of competing companies!
