On the Up Lakes Express, note the LNER Brake Third leading the formation. A pleasing overhead view of 70045 Lord Rowallan and what a lovely Gresley Brake coach that is leading the formation. 70045 was one of the handful of Britannias drafted to Wolverhampton's Oxley shed to help out with the Saturday workings from Wolverhampton and Birmingham down to the Westcountry during the Summer Services1965, running down to Bristol Temple Meads and returning later in the day. Whilst at Bristol the engines were turned, watered and prepared for their return run at Bristol Barrow Road shed, but facilities at that site were by then dreadfully run down and it was probably the case that it was up to the footplate crews to attend to anything on the engines that needed attention. That year was the final one for steam being rostered on such workings
