Peter Kerslake says "Displaying the white painted smokebox door hinges and fitments which Immingham Depot for some reason seemed to favour 70040 "Clive of India" had been one of the initial three of its class sent to Immingham in company with 70039 and 70041 in December when their days at Norwich Depot were coming to an end.
Although not new engines and with a final total of just seven going to Immingham the footplate crews there were impressed with their reserves of power, the seven being rostered to passenger duties between Cleethorpe and Kings Cross, as seen here, running via Boston and Peterborough in addition to them working services between Cleethorpes and Leeds on a daily "out and back" schedule and running via Scunthorpe."
