70040 1961-03 Kings Cross

Peter Kerslake says "One of the thre first " Britannias " to be ousted from their home at Norwich in company with sister engines 70039 and 70041 in December1960 70040 "Clive of India" managed to avoid going to March where so many of the former Norwich "Britannias" languished without work for them but instead was sent to Immingham where they were warmly welcomed and immediately put to work on the passenger rosters between Kings Cross and Cleethorpes as seen here.
Although generally well looked after at Immigham 70040 looks in need of a clean in this view as the portals of the 528 yards long Gas Works tunnel loom ahead with the Regents Canal and York Road above it.
A stiff 1 in 107 climb up to Copenhagen tunnel awaits ahead and the massive signal box, so long a feature here at Kings Cross dominates the station approaches as an Inspector has a chat with a couple of colleagues."
