With a featherweight freight

A fine elevated portrait of 70024 " Vulcan " at Skipton in March1967 when the engine was shedded at its last working depot at Carlisle Kingmoor from December1966.
Allocated to Plymouth's Laira Depot from being newly built in October1951 " Vulcan " was used during its time at Laira on workings from Plymouth down into Cornwall as far as Penzance as well as rosters taking its to Bristol and Paddington on express passenger workings .
A favourite duty for Laira's four " Britannias " in the ' fifties was their being rostered by Laira's shedmasters on the afternoon " North Mail " as far as Bristol which was always heavily loaded and with the engine working onwards from Bristol Temple Meads to Paddington that same evening on a late evening passenger duty from Weston super Mare to the Capital .
