70024 1967-09 Hellifield

By September 1967, the remaining BR 'Britannias' had all been allocated to Carlisle Kingmoor, lost their pride in appearance along with their fine names and yet were still capable of inspiring admiration and awe. This is the former 'Vulcan' with a westbound van freight at Hellifield. The strange contraption on the left is a gangers trolley - with the wheels removed. 70024 was built at Crewe in Oct. 1951 and was withdrawn in Dec. 1967.
