70045 1950s Bangor
Off 6J so between when New in June 1954 to November 1959 A smartly turned out 70045 is seen here at Bangor in a very early view taken before the locomotive received its Lord Rowallan nameplates, but displaying its 6 J shedplate which confirms the image as being from the start of the engine's lifetime as its first home shed from being built in June1954 was at 6 J, namely Holyhead. The locomotive carries a single stopping passenger lamp and was at Holyhead for five years, working the Irish Mail and other Top Link North Wales passenger rosters from that important railhead until being reallocated to Chester in late 1959. Subsequent transfers took 70045 to Crewe, Camden, Newton Heath, Neasden and Aston before it returned to its former Holyhead home in December1962. One of 70045's later homes was at Banbury when in September 1965 it became the first of eight Britannias moved to Banbury Motive Power Depot for the Depot's final year in operation and from where they worked between Marylebone and Nottingham before Banbury Depot closed in October1966. Lord Rowallan was withdrawn from Carlisle Kingmoor in December1967 .
