Delivered from new in August1951 to Old Oak Common 70023 Venus is seen here from Totterdown Park at Bedminster heading away westwards from Bristol Temple Meads and past the stock sidings with an empty Reporting Number frame in position and carrying an Empty Stock or Express Freight lamp code, and those who know about these things will doubtless be able to identify the rather unusual looking coaches in its formation. Venus remained at Old Oak until February1957 when all the Western Region Britannias ended up at Cardiff Canton as the West of England services went over to Diesel power, remaining at Canton until its transfer to the Midland Region in September1961, thereafter being allocated initially to Carlisle Kingmoor from where, after numerous shed moves, it was withdrawn in December1967
