70039 1960s Nottingham Victoria
Tony Saville This is the daily Grimsby - Whitland Fish Train which it will work as far as Banbury. The picture is dated between 10/12/60 and 07/12/63 when allocated to Immingham Displaced by diesels on the former Great Eastern main line from Liverpool Street during 1960 not all the Britannias then at Norwich went straight to the LMR, with 70039 Sir Christopher Wren, 70040 Clive of India and 70041 Sir John Moore being the first three of an eventual seven to be allocated to Immingham from where they replaced the B1 class engines on the Grimsby and Cleethorpes expresses, working those duties not into Liverpool Street as in the past, but to Kings Cross. This very fine picture shows 70039 when allocated to Immingham on an Up Grimsby fish working as it remained at Immingham until a move to Carlisle in December, 1963
