Pter Kerslake says "Waiting to depart on the Down Norfolkman Shown as being from 1951 this must be one of Britannia's very early outings on the Eastern Region main line between Liverpool Street and Norwich, the engine having been allocated to Stratford Depot in January 1951 following a short spell of evaluation and testing whilst in unlined black livery from Crewe, where it had been built. That looks like an Inspector chatting to the driver, his engine now in pristine lined green livery. The Britannias transformed services on the North Norfolk line, being warmly welcomed by the crews at both Stratford and Norwich, and putting in some fine performances for ten years or so with the tightly timed passenger workings whilst running between Liverpool Street and Norwich."
