70022 1956-05-21 Exeter St Davids

70022 1956-05-21 Exeter St Davids

Newton Abbot shed only had one Britannia in its allocation and I have captured on film that locomotive working down into Exeter St. Davids and across Red Cow crossing at 5.45.p.m. on Whitsun Monday, the 21st of May, 1956. 70022 would doubtless have come on to this working at Bristol Temple Meads, probably relieving there a Midland Region Jubilee or similar which had worked down from Shrewsbury. This was a Homeward Bound shot for me, returning to Plymouth following a Southern Day Out at Exmoth Junction shed and a trip on the Lyme Regis branch in company with a couple of fellow enthusiasts. Rather unusually we had travelled to Exeter earlier that day via the Southern line from Plymouth, running via Okehampton, but went home by the more convential and speedier Western Region route!
