70053 1965-09-04 Standish Junction Gloucester

Saturday 4th September 1965 was the last day of the 1965 Summer Services and at around 4.30.p.m. 70053 Moray Firth crosses over from the Western Region line from Bristol at Standish Junction and takes the northbound line to Birmingham in order to take the Gloucester avoiding line as it will not call at the Midland Eastgate station. This year, the final year of steam in the Gloucester area saw a handful of Britannias working the Saturday Summer Specials from the West Midlands to Bristol Temple Meads and back, these engines having been temporarily allocated to Oxley shed specifically for this purpose.
