‘Britannia’ No. 70051, formerly Firth of Forth, heads a southbound Class ‘C’ Parcels on the Up Fast. No. 70051 had recently been transferred to Carlisle Kingmoor in January 1966, having spent its early years in Scotland before short stays at Crewe, Holyhead and Banbury in the early 1960s. A fine portrait of Britannia 70051 Firth of Forth on a fast fitted perishables and parcels working, this engine having been one of eight of its class transferred to Banbury Depot in September1965, this one being one of the four so reallocated there from Crewe South. The eight new arrivals were rostered on the passenger turns into Marylebone from the Nottingham line and they gave Banbury a new lease of life, although their stay there lasted only for four months as in January1966 they were all moved yet again, this time to Carlisle Kingmoor, and Banbury Motive Power Depot closed in the October1966. At an important centre within the rail network, Banbury Depot had been transferred from the Western Region to the London Midland Region in 1963 and had as many as seventy locomotives on its books whilst still on the Western Region in the mid ' fifties.
