70015 1960-04-21 Souldrop

Britannia' No.70015 Apollo on a down Manchester express at Souldrop on 21st April 1960. It had been transferred to Trafford Park from Cardiff Canton in 1958 and stayed there until the end1960, when it went to Newton Heath. 70015 Apollo had been intended to be the very first of the newly built Britannias to be allocated to the Western Region in 1951, but in the event both Apollo and 70016 Ariel were diverted when newly built initially to the London Midland Region, with Apollo finding herself at Camden whilst Ariel was sent down from Crewe Works to Holbeck, both engines shortly afterwards being temporarily loaned to the Eastern Region's Stratford Depot before they found their intended homes at Old Oak and Laira respectively. Transferred to Cardiff Canton in late 1956 Apollo was there for just two years, being loaned together with 70017 Arrow and 70021 Morning Star to Manchester's Trafford Park Depot in early July1958, such move being made permanent just to weeks afterwards.
