4247 1956-06-06 Treesmill
Now preserved Churchward 2-8-0T No 4247 passes Treesmill on the Par to Lostwithiel main line with an Up freight on 6th June 1956. Allocated to St Blazey from December 1952 to January 1956 for use on the heavily graded line from St Blazey to Fowey. The branch had been specially cleared for these 'Red' route engines in order to allow longer heavier trains to operate to the china clay export port. The shed at St Blazey usually had a pair of these engines allocated and their use was largely restricted to china clay traffic, this being a rare view of one on other traffic.
