A milk train, I thought this would be the afternoon departure from Whitland, bound for London but Lindsay Bryant suggests this is a down service rather than up, if it was an afternoon up train, (a) it's on the up relief rather than up main - unusual for milk and (b) the sun is in the wrong postion for that time and direction, so therefore it is a Down empty milk train.
A prime candidate is the 10.35 a.m. Kensington - Whitland milk, which would have been in the Newport to Cardiff section in the afternoon. There was also a 12.45 p.m. Old Oak - Whitland / Neyland but that usually conveyed fish empties in addition to milk tankers.
