GCR class D11 4-4-0 No 62667 Somme departs from Lincoln St.Marks with the 3.8pm train for Nottingham on January 13, 1954.
Peter Kerslake says "A stirring shot of Lincoln based "Improved Director" 62667 "Somme" setting off from its home station with Lincoln St Marks church visible to the left whilst working what was a regular turn for the four of the class allocated to Lincoln St. Marks from 1953 until 1957 as they spent a lot of their time running to Nottingham and Derby before going to Sheffield Darnall in March 1957.
Whilst the 24 of the class introduced in 1924 were all allocated north of the border at Glasgow's Eastfield depot and Edinburgh's Waverley during this time the original 11 from 1919 were at Lincoln together with five at Northwich, and one each at Manchester Trafford Park and Immingham.
It was at the shed close by that I photographed "Butler Henderson" at about this time on my Saturday afternoon special visit from Boston where I was on relief duty."
