5507 1920s Wakefield

5507 1920s Wakefield

I suspect taken between 1926 and 1929. The station at Wakefield Westgate had a very unusual clock tower, a fusion of Art Nouveau and Gothic styles, 97 feet high, and decorated with a cast-iron lantern and a gilded weathervane.

Peter Kerslake says "Built by the Great Central Railway in February 1920, 5507 Gerard Powys Dewhurst was the second of Robinson's 'Improved Directors' and became 62661 in BR days."
