5105 1957-10-26 Gloucester Tramway Junction
View NW towards Gloucester Central station at the busy road crossing and railway junction next to the ex-GWR Horton Road Shed. The 12.35pm for Cheltenham St James is headed by '5101' class 2-6-2T no. 5105 (built 11/29, withdrawn 10/58).
Peter Kerslake says "According to my 1956 shed book 5105 was formerly allocated to Stourbridge Junction Motive Power Depot but is shown here the following year heading past Gloucester's Horton Road depot toward Tramway Junction on a local service to Cheltenham.
Doubtless now being a Gloucester engine 5105 would be used on local passenger duties such as this and also working to Hereford as well as working freights and spending time at Brimscombe as the Sapperton banking engine.
One of the first series of "5105" locomotives and a development from the earlier "3100"class 5105 was built at Swindon in 1929, their working lives seeing the class rostered to secondary passenger duties, banking engines and freights until the last two, namely 4113 and 4161 were condemned in 1965."
