1369 1960-05 Weymouth

This splendid shot has it all, and what a variety of transportation to be seen here at Weymouth quay with some barges in the foreground . Little 1369 had come down to Weymouth the month before the date of this picture following some 26 years shedded at Swindon in company with a number of its sister engines, to work the narrow and congested streets between Weymouth Quay, the arrival port for the Channel Islands Boat Trains, and Weymouth's main line station, spending just two years here before being reallocated to Wadebridge in Cornwall for use on the china clay freights in that area. Withdrawn from Cornwall in November of 1964 the engine was purchased for preservation following a joint fundraising appeal by the Great Western Society and the then Dart Valley Railway, and is now at Buckfastleigh . That's a Renault Dauphine in the foreground, the model being well known for its rapid rusting, together with a Wolseley, an Austin A35 and a Ford behind, with an Austin A40 in the background . The motor cycle business seems to be doing well, their Ford van and motor cycle hauled transporter competing for space with an assortment of Lambretta scooters and a mixed bag of motor cycles including one with a covered sidecar.
