10203 1957-08-03 Northchurch Tunnel

SR 1Co-Co1 No 10203 up 'Royal Scot' approaching Northchurch tunnel on 3 August 1957.

Peter Kerslake says "10203, seen here in lined green livery and with an impresssive load of more than ten coaches in tow on the "Royal Scot " had been transferred from its home on the Southern Region to Camden on the London Midland Region twenty five months earlier than this fine view, following 10201 and 10202 which had been likewise transferred in April of 1955, the trio were put to work on the lengthy and heavilly loaded express duties between Euston and Glasgow.
Train heating problems, especially during the winter months later saw the three relegated to secondary duties and with increasing maintanance costs and lengthy periods stored mainly at Derby out of use it was inevitable that their end was in sight and all three were withdrawn in February of 1968."
