W11W 1950s Where?
Peter Kerslake says "With the exact date and location not known the best that I can do is to show that in the mid 'fifties railcar number 11 was sheddded at Swansea's Landore Depot.
The former G.W.R. railcars really comprised three batches, with the first five, entering service in 1934 having handsome bodywork from Park Royal, whilst railcars numbered from 5 to 16 inclusive came from the Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Company and were also designed with smoothed and rounded leading and trailing ends, similar to the initial five.
The main batch of twenty were constructed at Swindon Works but incorporated a "razor edge" wedge design ,being numbered from 19 to 38 inclusiv.e
Railcar number 11 seen here, therefore, is a Gloucester built one, now missing its former side valances which would have been removed much earlier in order to provide access to the bogies and running gear."
