GWR diesel rail car No 4 at Stratford-upon-Avon in 1935.

Peter Kerslake says "Happily, Railcar number 4, seen here when just a couple of years old, made it into preservation, having been restored by the authorities in 1962 when it had the distinction of being the oldest example remaining in service. A few years earlier when, in the mid 'fifties, it was allocated on its own to Newport Pill Depot it ran on the service between there and Monmouth, running via Chepstow.
Early versions of the class had their main frames built by A.E.C. at Southall , the Company known as the "Builders of London's Omnibuses", being powered by a single 121 Horse Power Diesel engine taking it to a maximum of 60 m.p.h. with seating for 69 passengers, whilst 1934 built versions were equipped with twin Diesels power units which doubled their Horse Power."
