W21W 1962c Swindon Works

Peter Kerslake says "A very good image of Railcar number 21 awaiting her fate here at Swindon Works in 1962, the last year in service for the class, and with the dreaded "Cond" applied indicating its having been recently condemned.
This was one of the batch of Railcars designed by Mr. Collett and numbered from number 18 to 38 built with bodywork from here at Swindon between 1937 and 1941 and this one was one of the fourteen completed in 1940.
Based at Southall in the mid 'fifties number 21 shows the wedge shaped front end which distinguished the Swindon built varients from the earlier Park Royal and Gloucester bodied versions with their rounded and more attractive bodywork."
