W16W 1954-10-10 Newbury
Peter Kerslake says "Former G.W.R. Railcar number 16 makes an attractive pictcure as she waits here at Newbury in this image from October of 1954, still resplendent in her chocolate and cream livery.
This Railcar was the last of twelve bodied by the Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Company during 1935 and 1936, their design being similar to the initial five with bodywork from Park Royal, both designs being far more pleasing to the eye than the later and final series of Swindon bodied varients with their sharp wedge fronted ends.
My 1956 shedbook shows that this Railcar was allocated to Reading that year in company with four of her sisters."
