In very clean blood and custard livery. This example of one of the former Great Western's Railcars , with its sharply edged front wedge shaped panels , numbered W20W , entered service in 1940 , and was equipped with A.E.C. built twin engined power plants producing 242 h.p. , that Southall based Company also manufacturing the transmission whilst Swindon built the bodies. Power output on later versions was less at 210 h.p. The early members of the class had also had their chassis built by A..E.C. , but later ones had Swindon built chassis as well as bodywork. A total of 38 such railcars eventually entered service with the Great Western , but there were widespread variations in design , some incorporating buffet and toilet provisions , some being for parcels traffic only whilst others were designed to work as a three car set with a corridor coach sandwiched between the two power cars During their working lives the railcars were used extensively and widely on the Great Western network , ranging in the eary years from services between Cardiff and Birmingham and later on parcels traffic in and around Paddington , and on services in and around Gloucester . W22W is preserved at Didcot in the care of the Great Western Society.
