Nice detail on the railcar captured whilst on shed. Railcar W18W seen here on Reading shed was an interesting varient of the former G.W.R. Diesels Railcars in that it was experimentally geared to haul a trailer car and was the prototype of later designs. This Railcar , built in 1937 , had twin A.E.C. power units giving 242 brake horse power , a smoothed and rounded leading end and a seating capacity of seventy. The class had many varients , some being equipped with buffet and toilet facilities , and their use was widespread and varied. The class which eventually totalled 38 lasted into the early ' sixties , with W22W being rescued from Barry yards in 1962 and now preserved by the Great Western Society at Didcot.
