W16 1950s Kennington Junction

W16 1950s Kennington Junction

The trackwork, rail fasteners and sleepers together with background would suggest it is Kennington Junction.

Peter Kerslake says "Railcar number 16 depicted here was the last of the Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Company built examples which formed the second batch of the former G.W.R. fleet being numbered from number 5 to this one, the initial four having been bodied by the Park Royal Company of coach builders.
Its rounded and streamlined ends were certainly more attractive than those of the final batch of twenty one built by Swindon Works from 1937 with their angular and wedge shaped ends and this example seen here had been one of five Railcars based at Reading Motive Power Depot in the mid 'fifties and I suspect that this is a working between there and Oxford.
Removal of the side panels which had earlier covered the bogies and running gear detracted somewhat from the previous overall streamlined appearance but became necessary as time passed in order to facilitate access to those parts."
