With a Flying Pig on loaded ballast hoppers from Shap quarry waiting to enter the station. There is some PW work going on being observed by a man who appears to be a bus driver - perhaps he brought a bus load of gricers who are 'doing' the shed! The station was not of typical LNWR or even Lancaster and Carlisle Railway design, the canopies appearing more Midland Railway than anything on the WCML, but their origins go back to the 1861 rebuilding wen the station became the Western end of the South Durham and Lancashire Union Railway, later absorbed into the NER, the branch being better known as the Stainmore line - it can be seen coming in at this junction at the northern end of the station.
