The BR ferry "Catherine" was one of three identical passenger-only vessels built by White's Shipyard of Southampton in 1961 for the Tilbury-Gravesend service, the others being "Edith" and "Rose". "Catherine" remained in service until 1984 and was then laid up until sold in 1990 for work on the River Tyne to Open Leisure Ltd and converted in North Shields to a stern wheeler and renamed "Catherine Wheel" for River Tyne excursion work.
