A fascinating view looking east at Malton Station in September 1956, taken by the late Henry Casserley. Changes wrought twixt then and now are removal of the overall roof, removal entirely of the island platform on the right, removal of the bay platform seen in the left distance and (behind the camera) the demolition of Malton MPD. Nonetheless Malton is still a most pleasant and attractive station to visit with the bonus of a good cafe! The amazing 'wheeled trolley' access to the island platform was primitive in the extreme and could not possibly be countenanced in today's H&S obsessed environment. It was however interlocked with signals to avoid accidents. When a train approached it was wheeled back under the up (York) platform!
