61124 1950s Wortley Station

61124 1950s Wortley Station

A splendid image recalling the days of steam on the trans Pennine Woodhead route as 61124 runs into a sunlit Wortley station before electrification transformed the scene in June of 1954 .
Wortley was situated some ten miles to the east of the summit at Woodhead, and just a mile eastwards from the little Thurgoland tunnel, on the long drop down from the summit to Sheffield. 61124 was always a Doncaster engine.
