At the very end of the steam era, I decided I would record the panorama that always greeted me on my many visits to Wakefield MPD. By this time (Feb. 1967) virtually all ten of the locomotives in this view were awaiting removal for scrap. There are three 'WD' 2-8-0s, three BR '9F' 2-10-0s, one Fairburn 2-6-4 Tank and three 'B1' 4-6-0s including Nos. 61123 and 61131. This scene has now been completely transformed into a modern housing estate that now occupies all the land that was formerly Wakefield MPD and the adjacent Wakefield Power Station that was served by its own industrial railway.
