61049 1950s Goathland

61049 1950s Goathland

Somewhat off the beaten track in the BR era, the preserved North Yorkshire Moors Railway's Goathland Station was not (back then) frequently photographed. In a scene that has barely changed in the last 70 or more years, this 1950s view is instantly recognisable. Ex-LNER Thompson 'B1' No. 61049 is climbing the very challenging 1 in 49 gradient from Grosmont and is about to run into Goathland station. Its journey will find her heading for Pickering and beyond to Malton and York. Built by NBL of Glasgow in June 1946 (as LNER No. 1049), it was withdrawn in November 1965.
