A lovely view taken from Wellingborough Station signal box, looking north. The box was demolished as a result of the resignalling of the Leicester gap in the 1980s. The three-storey building to the right of Mill Road over-bridge used to be the engine men's hostel, where train crew on freight turns between Toton and London would lodge overnight. The building is now demolished, although Wellingborough no.2 shed still stands. The two sidings on the right are where the coaches for the Higham Ferrers branch train used to stand, before the branch closed to passengers in 1959. This scene will soon change for ever, as a new road bridge is being built from the west (left) side of the tracks, across the line, to the east side, where the new Stanton Cross housing development will be built, together with a new station building.
