8102 1964-06 Swindon Works
Stripped down for scrapping but looking like a stationary boiler
8102 seen here within Swindon Works with lots of it missing following withdrawal had been constructed here at Swindon in 1938 as the result of a plan to rebuild withdrawn members of the " 5100 " class with new front ends , higher boiler pressure and smaller coupled wheels , ten such engines entering service in 1938 and 1939 and being allocated to a variety of Motive Power Depots ranging from the Midlands down to Carmarthen , the outset of the Second War doubtless curtailing plans to introduce more into service.
8102 had been rebuilt from 5118 in 1938 and the first of these rebuilds in the form of 8107 was condemned in 1962 , the last being 8109 which survived until 1965.
My records show that 8102 had been allocated to 87H which was Neyland in South Wales in her earlier years.
