8557 1926c Lincoln Central
B12 4-6-0 No 8557 at Lincoln Central on a slow train to March in c1926.
Peter Kerslake says "What a magnificent picture of "B12" 8557 in the early LN.E.R. livery with the running number on herthe tender rather than on the cab sides although that was changed in 1928, the numbers then being squeezed in between the beading over the trailing wheel arch and the cab windows.
The splendid ornate valancing over the driving wheels looks superb in this view was removed during the locomotives' working lives with later versions having just the plain running plate which doubtless eased access for lubrication to the axle boxes but which was less attractive."
