B12/1 4-6-0 No 8568, fitted with an ACFI feed-water heater, passes Manningtree North Junction with an Ipswich to Liverpool Street slow in 1937.
Peter Kerslake says "The ACFI feed water heater system on 8568 dated back to 1927 when three of the class were fitted with the French designed system with the feed pump on the front footplating above the bogie together with two large heat exchangers on top of the boiler.
Fifty more of the class were fitted between 1931 and 1933 but the system had a short life and was removed as the engines went through Works."
