8536 1939-08 Kittybrewster

8536 1939-08 Kittybrewster

Ex-Great Eastern Railway Holden 'B12/1' class 4-6-0 No. 4536. Built at Stratford in May 1915 as GER No. 1536 and withdrawn in December 1949 as BR No. 61536. Many 'foreign' locomotives were allocated to Scotland by the LNER. The GNSR routes had never had anything larger than 4-4-0s, so the LNER's answer to increasing loads was to provide a batch of ex-Great Eastern B12s. In June 1931, 8536 was fitted with the effective but unlovely ACFI water feed heater later removed in WW2 as an economy measure. 8536 is noisily entering Kittybrewster Station with a down train in August 1939.
