BR 'Class 55' or 'Deltic' Co-Co diesel No, D9006 'The Fife and Forfar Yeomanry'. Built by English Electric Vulcan Foundry in June 1961 and withdrawn in February 1961. As the steam age drew to a close, it was realised that those places where steam locomotives had been serviced were unfit for purpose for the new diesel era. Major investment was sorely needed but short-term solutions were more often the order of the day. Haymarket MPD in July 1965 has allocated a section of the shed and some corrugated iron cladding, perhaps even re-roofing has been carried out. Haymarket would be fully rebuilt over the next few years. 'Deltic' D9006, one of the few new locomotive types that had finally eclipsed the best that steam could offer, sits outside in July 1965. The original smart two-tone green livery suited them so much better than the ghastly 'BR blue' that was to follow.
