11118 1956-03 Stourton MPD

A crisp study of BR 'D2/7' No. 11118 on a gloomy day at Leeds Stourton MPD. The ex-Midland Railway shed at Stourton was on the south eastern approaches to Leeds and the adjacent freight yards and was home to a modest allocation of freight locomotives. This 'D2/7' 0-6-0 Shunter is seen with its original LMS-style numbering in this March 1956 portrait. As one of a class of only ten locomotives, it was built by Hudswell Clarke of Leeds in Jan. 1956 and was withdrawn in Oct. 1967 as BR No. D2502. She was never allocated to the area so must have been 'on trial' immediately after delivery from its makers.br/ br/ Note the curiosity of a 'steam locomotive' chimney fitted!br/ br/ copy; Ken Widd -SA Collection
