45232 1964-09-21 Severn Tunnel Junction
A fine close up shot of " Class Five " 45232 here on Severn Tunnel Junction Depot , that estblishment being an important facility in what was a busy freight centre both from the Midlands via Gloucester and from the west via the Severn Tunnel .
The Depot here began life in 1907 as a four track establishment , with the gable containing the round window seen in this view being part of that original structure , with the section to the left upon which the locomotive is standing having been added in 1931 to an almost identical design as the original .
The Depot here survived for steam workings until as late as 1965 , enabling freight workings to continue to and from South Wales until the end of Western Region steam at the end of that year .
