The effort is nearly over for the fireman as Stanier ‘Class 5’ No.45268 reaches the summit at Blackwell. It was at Saltley shed from new in October 1936 until April 1964 when it was transferred to Stoke.
Ed Purcell adds "The extremely well trodden and flattened earth alongside the track was because of the brake men walking along pinning down goods train brakes. Their little cabin is visible on the left. The train seems to be a special or excursion/extra."
