60114 1961-03 Wymondley

The only locomotive to be named after a General Secretary of the ASLEF trade union was 'W.P. Allen'. Highly regarded and respected, William Philip Allen (1888-1958) was a railwayman and trades union leader his entire working life. BR Peppercorn 'A1' 4-6-2 No. 60114 is heading a down express at Wymondley near Hitchin in September 1964. It was built at Doncaster in Aug. 1948 and was withdrawn in Dec. 1964.
