In the 1950s, in common with most passenger express locomotives, the 'A1s' were very well groomed. Witness smart 'Scottish Union' reversing out of King's Cross having just brought in a down express. BR Peppercorn 'A1' 4-6-2 No. 60125 was built at Doncaster in April 1949 and withdrawal came in July 1964.
