Class D31 No 9740 was a regular performer over the Buchan lines north of Aberdeen. The location of this picture is unrecorded but appears to be on the coast, so may well be Cruden Bay, Longhaven or Boddam itself on the Boddam branch from Ellon. This branch closed to passengers in 1932 and freight in 1944. No 9740 became LNER No 2069 but was withdrawn in November 1947 before becoming BR property.
