61940 1958 Boston
There's plenty to catch the eye in this fine view of ex-LNER Gresley 'K3' 61940 leaving Boston in Lincolnshire. Boston was the location of the GNR's 'works' until 1853 prior to the choice of Doncaster for their principal locomotive works nicknamed 'The Plant'. This photograph was taken in 1958.
Steve Priestley adds "The K3 which was like a March engine at the time 31B, is working the 09.07am Doncaster all stations to Peterborough via Lincoln and Boston. It was known locally by enthusiast at Boston as the ‘twenty to twelve’ (time of arrival). A really interesting working which was a regular working for the B17 footballer class and sometimes a Claud Hamilton, very rare visitors at Boston. Lovely photo with the loco on the left, a down freight making its way towards West Street Junction and a light engine at Broadfield Lane crossing. Happy days!"
